Our Story
Clio is a New York-based nonprofit serving older adults, founded in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The story of Clio, formerly known as WH SeniorLink, begins at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City, when urgent measures to slow the virus’ rapid spread and a surging death toll severed older New Yorkers’ connections to their friends, families, neighbors, and essential resources, like food and health care. Our three founders set out to tackle the new, emerging public health crisis -- social isolation among those at the highest risk of developing serious complications from the virus -- starting in the neighborhoods of Washington Heights and Harlem.
Clio has offered all older adults in these neighborhoods the opportunity to develop new social connections in a safe way and provided the most isolated among them referrals to essential resources and services. Our program paired (and continues to pair) participants with friends their own age and volunteers across generations, who monitor their matches’ needs, share practical information, and build meaningful relationships. We are continuing to evolve with the needs of our communities by expanding into case management. In the longer term, we aim to develop a digital platform to aggregate resources for seniors and offer in-person programming.
With our training and experience in social work and medicine, our team is committed to strengthening older adults’ connections to their communities and improving their health and wellbeing during the pandemic and far beyond.
We are excited to connect!
